Our History

How did SAYSF come to be?

SAYSF Bible Church grew out of the passion and vision of T (Theron) and Dolly (Barbara Jean) Davidson in the late 1940’s. T had an ebullient gift of evangelism which led to many opportunities to work with children and teens. He built “Kamp SAYSF” in an effort to share Christ with them and to meet their needs.

Wondering what “SAYSF” means? Well, it’s an acronym for Seek And YShall Find, as found in the King James translation of Matthew 7:7 and Luke 11:9.

In 1951, the new believers, who had begun to meet in Pastor T and Dolly’s home for Sunday services and Bible study, moved to the camp buildings. The dining hall served as the sanctuary for many years and was known in the community as SAYSF Chapel.

In 1979 a new church building was added to the Chapel and the name was changed to SAYSF Bible Church. Hundreds of people have been touched by the ministries of SAYSF, and they are in the process of “Becoming Like Jesus” as a result.

In March of 1992, Faith Bible Church was planted in Mechanicsville, MD as an outreach of the SAYSF ministry.

In 2001, Pastor Rod Spade joined the SAYSF staff and eventually accepted the position of Senior Pastor. Pastor Rod and wife, Carole Ann, were missionaries in what is now West Papua, New Guinea. That experience was a natural influence to widen and strengthen the vision of the members of SAYSF to share Christ with the whole world. Pastor Rod laid a secure foundation for the church’s future growth, prior to his retirement in March, 2011.

Today, following God’s leading, Pastor Larry and the other elders continue to encourage and inspire our local Body to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord. As we do, God fills our hearts with a passion to become like Jesus more and more.
