Larry Crabtree

Senior Pastor / Elder

For the past three (3) decades it has been my yearning to increase in becoming more like Jesus. I love to introduce people to Jesus and to help them better understand how God’s Word, the Bible, is not nearly as difficult to understand as we are often told. There is nothing on this earth more exciting than to watch the faces of people as they recognize the relevant and powerful truths found within the pages of Scripture coming to life within their own lives.

My wife, Kim, and I were introduced at Philadelphia College of Bible (now Cairn University) while studying Bible and music. We were married in May 1987. God eventually guided me to the Graduate School of Lancaster Bible College where I completed a Masters Degree in Ministry.

God blessed us with two wonderful children who have quickly grown and started families of their own. In fact, we are now enjoying the blessings of being grandparents.

A unique aspect of my pastoral ministry is that I have been serving as a volunteer Police Chaplain for more than two (2) decades. Presently, I actively serve the St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office and Maryland State Police. I provide counseling, spiritual guidance, crisis intervention, and friendship to both the Deputies and Correction Officers.

Many are surprised to learn that both Kim and I are experienced Artisan Chocolatiers. We sometimes get to share the results of our labor with our church family. Chocolate anyone?

Associate Pastor / Elder

I am continually amazed by the personal involvement and steadfast love of God who has so obviously prepared and led me to SAYSF Bible Church. Having had the privilege of growing up in a two parent, bilingual, Christian home, I witnessed God’s loving and forgiving nature through my parent’s faith at an early age.

It was ultimately in my teen years at a youth retreat that I came to know Jesus as my Lord and Savior.

Always desiring to make Christ known, I enjoyed being heavily involved at my church in several ministries such as, the worship band, teaching Sunday school, and most passionately, youth ministry and preaching.

After years of bi-vocational ministry, I sought professional biblical and theological training at the Moody Bible Institute to earn my undergraduate degree in 2013.

Now residing in southern Maryland along with my wife and our young daughter and son, I expect a long and fruitful ministry at SAYSF Bible Church directing the youth and small group programs.

I grew up in a family where the truths of the Bible were taught and modeled every day. At a young age I made a decision (as God graciously drew me!) to become a Christian by trusting Jesus as the only One who could pay (through his death) the debt I owed.

As a youngster living in New Jersey, I cared mostly about math and baseball.

My wife, Jan, and I were married in 1982 and moved to southern Maryland when I took a job at NAVAIR. Almost right after we arrived, we became a part of the SAYSF Bible Church family.

Jan and I have been involved in youth ministry, music, and various teaching roles. The church body asked me to serve as an elder in 1989. Since then, the Lord has stretched me in ways I would not have believed; and He has always provided the strength and grace to enable me to serve in whatever way He puts before me.

While still an unbeliever, the Lord drew me to Southern Maryland in 1997 to attend the U.S. Naval Test Pilot School as a navy pilot. After many Christian classmates prayed for me, and many SAYSF people shared with me, I surrendered my life to Jesus Christ in 1999.

I met Pastor T. Davidson during Test Pilot School and he showed me special kindness and confidence. He and many others at SAYSF discipled me and helped grow in my relationship with Christ. One of them is now my wife, Terrie.

The Lord took us to Florida and California with the Navy for further discipleship before returning us to Patuxent River in 2006. I retired from the Navy in 2009 and communicated to the SAYSF Elders what I believed was God’s leading for me to enter the pastoral ministry.

With their mentorship, I have been privileged to serve the SAYSF family as an elder these past few years.

I’m an active member of the deacons team, preach and teach Sunday School on occasion. My wife and I led the nursery ministry for many years. We sometimes host small group in our home. We are also active in homeschooling our four children.

Growing up in the church I have always had a belief in God. But my youth was spent on a works righteousness religion. Never knowing Jesus, I relied on my own goodness in hopes of going to Heaven. In 1993, I met my wife Sonia. In 1999, we got married and after moving to Southern Maryland with our first child in 2004, we started church hunting and eventually found SAYSF Bible Church. On one evening in January of 2011, the Lord drew me to Himself and I put my faith and trust in Jesus Christ! Since then, I have participated in various ministries such as leading worship, the worship band as drummer, a trustee member, participated in leading communion services and later became a small group leader, hosting from our home.

After years of serving as a dedicated member and upon much prayer, I felt the Lord calling me to go into full-time ministry. My prayers were answered when my Pastor, Larry Crabtree, approached me with a discipleship opportunity. A year of dedicated training followed. Soon after, my family and I were called to fulfill the great commission on a short-term missions trip to France, it was then that the call to ministry became overwhelming! I then communicated to church leadership of my interest in going into a life of ministry. And it was at that time that my Pastor proposed my becoming an Elder-in-training. Now an official Elder, I am beyond excited about the path God has put me on and I look forward to continuing to devote my life to His Glory!
